Raynal, now the head of referees in France, recently criticized Super Rugby for prioritizing speed over player safety and its failure to attract crowds. He argued that the Southern Hemisphere's focus on more passing and tries comes at the expense of traditional elements like mauls and scrums, which the Northern Hemisphere defends.
